I'm pretty much moved in to my new office. My wife and I have renovated one of our bedrooms to create a new office in our home. I'm pretty stoked about it. For the last year and a half I have been working in different sections of the Family Room. This is the room that we spend most of our free time. It is where we go to rest from the day. One of the down sides of this is that I effectively can't get out of the office. It made the day longer then necessary. It also made it too easy to do work outside the regular work day. Great for productivity but poor for balancing work and personal life. It also meant that on days when my wife was off from work and I wasn’t that her trying to do things around the house or watch TV interfered with my working. That changes with the new office.
Now I can go into a private room and shut the door to work. Likewise at the end of the day I can leave it all behind and shut the door.
One other thing about this move. This office is “my room.” I’ve shared bedrooms my whole life. I shared a room with my brother growing up; a dorm room in college; and a room with my wife since we were married. So this is the first time in my life I’ve had a room of my own. It feels pretty good. Now to figure out how to get my wife a room of her own. J
