Shopping
I am not a shopper. If I know exactly what I want I am fine. I love buying things online for this very reason. Login on, enter what you want, pay for it and like magic it shows up with the mail. Clothing is not so bad either. I know my sizes, I know what colors and styles I like and I can find what I want (or find that it is not there) pretty quickly.
But somethings are harder. Items that cost a lot or have a lot of options or both I have a hard time with. Computers may be the worst. There it is often a matter of deciding between what I need and what I want. It usually works out though because afterall I am only answering to myself.
Because I work in the computer industry I am asked to help other people buy computers. That is the worst kind of shopping of all. As careful (some would say cheap) as I am with my own money I worry greatly about spending other people's money. I talk to them about what they need, how much they can spend, and how long they expect the computer to last. Then and only then do I make a recommendation. Generally I recommend that they buy it from someone with a good service record so I can tell them who to call (that isn't me) if there is a problem.
No one has ever come back to me and said I gave them wrong advice. And I've helped most of my family and many of my friends buy computers. So I must be doing a good job but it is still stressful for me. And no I can't say no. Have you ever talked to the people who sell computers in most stores? They either do not know computers or they have no clue of how to talk to laymen. At least the performance of most computers these days is such that someone who doesn't know much about computers can't easily buy one that will not do what they want. Only if you really know what you are doing will you be likely to run out of disk, memory or find an important feature missing.
Serious gamers know what video cards to by. Serious music people know to buy a big disk and fancy speakers. The average old person who just wants to write letters, send email and chat with his grandchildren can get by with almost anything.
