I visited Brown University today. Great day. I visited with two other Microsoft people. One of them from my group and one of them Erik Meijer who is a designer of C# 2.0 and now also working on the version of Visual Basic after 2005. Erik is one of the most knowledgable people around programming language design I have ever met. And he is a wonderful speaker who is both interesting and informative. He talked to a couple of groups and individuals today and I got to come along.
But it was a long day. I left the house early in the morning and returned around 23:00. After the meetings, the three Microsoft people went out to eat. We were having a great dinner and time passed quickly. But the other two were staying the night in Providence and I had a two hour drive home. But you know it was worth it. Spending time with interesting people and getting a chance to learn from top people both at the schools I visit and from industry experts is a great part of my job. I hope I always enjoy learning new things.
