Not just the year but the new book by David McCullough. I read his biography of John Adams a while back and it was great. There was no doubt at all as to why he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize (his second) for the Adams book. I'd be surprised if he doesn't win another for 1776.
I'm only 120 pages into it but it is great. I was up too late reading last night. Could happen again tonight if I am not careful. If you want to read a riveting and true story than this one, the first year of the American Revolution, is a great read. You may enjoy it even if you are not from the US. (Even if your country was on the "other side.")
