Have you seen the new Lego Mindstorms NXT?

The people from Lego visited the Microsoft campus to show off the latest version of the Lego robotics hardware – MindStorms NXT. There is a video of the visit at On10.  It looks really cool and it is scheduled to hit retail stores this week just in time for my birthday at the end of the week. I think I need to send a link to the video to my wife. :-)

Does Microsoft have an educational software division that works on applications such as these?

Microsoft's educational software comes from several places. There isn't a real centralized educational development group though. There are some educational games from the games group (at least I think that is who does them) and there is a group that makes software for educational infrastructure. They work with a lot of out partners and are part of the SIF program. The robotics software was developed by an unusual product group that is technically part of Microsoft Research. That group is now working with researchers are Carnegie Mellon, Georgia State and I think a couple of other universities to develop educational resources around the Microsoft Robotics Studio software. They are also working with several robotics hardware companies.
