I have seen this floating around and wondered if I would get tagged. Today I was tagged by no less than the amazing Howard Lo. The idea is that I have to list five things that you probably don't know about me. Then I have to tag others to do the same. Here goes.
- When I was 15 I went on a bicycle trip from California to Deleware. As perspective this is coast to coast and was about 3200 miles (5150 km) of riding in about 32 days. I was in great shape atfterwards.
- I ride a unicycle. Yes I still ride it from time to time. I don't ride it 3200 miles but I did take it with me on the bicycle trip and rode around at break time.
- My undergraduate degree is not in computer science. It is actually a double major in sociology and systems. I did take a lot of computer science course but CS majors were rare back that long ago and few universities offered one.
- I once taught kindergarten. Actually that year I taught every grade from kindergarten to 8th grade (students aged 5 to about 14) as a specialist working part-time in two different schools. In one school I was the only adult male the students saw in the building and the only male teacher on staff. I learned to accept being addressed as "Mrs. Thompson" because the little ones all thought "Mrs." was how one identified a teacher.
- One summer as a teenager I worked at a summer camp in the kitchen. I believe I washed more dishes (my main job) that summer than the average person washes in a lifetime. My wife still insists that I wash dishes though.
I think I'll tag Diane, Didith, Rob Miles, Tom and Jasper. Bernard has already been tagged or I'd do it myself.
