Should I bring my laptop to Norway

I'm busy planning a two week trip to Norway with my cousin in two months.  One of the questions in my mind is if I should bring a laptop along. I haven't traveled without a laptop in years and years. When I went to Norway 7 years ago I brought one and used it only to store pictures from my digital camera. Today I suspect that in the urban areas I am likely to be able to find wi-fi in many places which would make it more useful. On the other hand this trip I will be travelling around more regularly and a laptop is extra weight. I need to find out if I can use my Treo 700w in Norway. If I can, especially if I can connect to the Internet for email, that should be enough of a communication device. The memory devices for cameras are much better than the floppies I used 7 years ago so I don't worry so much about needing a back up.

And yet the idea of not having a laptop even on vacation feels funny. I could blog the trip with a laptop for example. The Internet is easier on a laptop than a phone as well. But there is the weight thing again. I guess I need to look into the phone question first. Sigh.

I feel your pain. I just returned from a week in Disneyworld (not the same as Norway, I know, but I did at least do the Norway exhibit in the World Showcase!) My wife insisted that I leave the laptop at home.

It was a very strange experience!

I'm right there with you both. On this last trip, we brought two laptops--my husband's and mine. It made sense for me because I was working. He used his mainly for mail and pictures.

My daughter made use of both our laptops when we weren't tapping away ourselves. My husband envisions that, one day, we'll be bringing three laptops on each trip. Yikes.

I know this sounds expensive, but having an ultraportable laptop with enough power packaged in a small frame would work wonders to a constant traveller.

You want the Toshiba Portege R400 - http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/ebtext.to?page=r400_micro_f Small, stylish but yet powerful :) Even my country manager is using that model :)

I don't know about a Toshiba. I have replaced the screeen on every single Toshiba I have ever had - about 5 of them. And the ones I have now are not very reliable. There is a Lenovo people are saying good things about that is small but powerful. I'm not much into style.

My personal travelling companion of choice is now the Motion LS800.

It is a tiny tablet with a little screen. Weighs almost nothing and the 800x600 screen is lovely, even for writing code. The mains adapter is tiny too. With 1Gb of RAM it will run Vista quite handily and you can prop it up and add a keyboard if you want to type stuff.
