Tutoring CSE3211

I have tutored this unit for about 4 weeks.

Just want to make a few comments (im not refering to my students)

a) Its amazing how some brilliant students who knows how to work around a Linux environment can stumbled at a Windows interface.

b) You should see the look of some students when I told them that yes ... you need to install IIS and VS.NET to do this unit.

c) Cut and paste. Students just cut and paste codes, they dun take note of things variables names and expect things to work. Its like trying to fit a square box into a triange hole.

d) VB.NET and C# are two different languages although they compile to the CLR. Students can start on VB.NET solution and cut and paste C# codes into it and ask me why it didnt work (read item c). Alamak! *Singaporean term for exsparations*

hahahahah .... back to my work.

You see alot of things when you are tutoring!! Regaring to interface - change of environment would affect the working efficiency, but sooner or later, easy to catch up. Fedora(linux) with xWindow looks like Windows. [There are lots of different distributions in linuxGroup] Hehe.. commanders are cool with keyboard while windowees - click magic. For beginners, they could probably too loss to think what goes wrong, a sample program(cut and paste) would be a good start for learning (of course, if they see into the code)[a piece of simple debugging exercise could encourage them to read the code.] Um.. with different language part - I can't understand why they can be mixed up(LOL) Well! East meets Wests. I found that some students would just go to tut without any preparation. Seems you need to do more work to take care of students... Good luck

Students can start on VB.NET solution and cut and paste C# codes into it and ask me why it didnt work --> LOL! I think the students need to understand the nature of each language's syntax before delving to code.
