Today being a Saturday, I wasn't inclined to blog. Just felt that I should have a bit of break from blogging some days during the week. Anyway, here is my entry on a dark and windy Saturday afternoon.
My native (?) language is English. I would generally regard myself as a fluent native English speaker. I can converse fluently with everyone around me. Sometimes, I am flabbergasted by the ability of some overseas students in uni.
Am I trying to say that my command of the English language is superior as compared to other overseas students? Absolutely not!
I realised that there is a lot that I have to learn to really claim mastery of the language. The English language is not just a bunch of grammatical rules which your primary school English teacher tried to drill into your head. It is not a component based language. There is an art in combining words into sentences, keeping them short, retaining readability and more importantly, getting one’s view across accurately.
