I am a practicing Catholic. Personally I am not pleased with the popularity of books like Da Vinci Code. It is a book of fiction but the way the author wrote it misled people especially Catholics.
These sorts of books are dangerous if people are not clear and firm in their faith. It makes people try to second guess their faith and their respective Church leadership.
In these day and age, we don't need more secularism. It is just awful to see today's Christmas celebration has few links to its Christian origins. The Church is an extremely important institution in the world we lived it. It is not just a building where Christians worship their God. Her involvement stretches beyond that, including the fields of education, healthcare and human rights.
True, there are crooked leaders within the Church, but to just focus on these black sheep is doing an injustice to the many dedicated lay people and clergy out there. End of the day, the Church is doing more good. That's the net result.
I see my faith as an extremely important asset to charter against the muddy waters of our daily life and modern society at large.
