Visual Basic Powerpack

Have you heard about the Visual Basic Powerpack? It has been around for awhile, but if you have not checked it out. Go and check it out. There are seven custom controls (ie fancy and useful controls but the hard work has been done by someone else) in there. Here is a MSDN TV episode about how to use it.

The 7 Custom Controls included in the pack are:

_ BlendPanel. This provides a background for a form where the color fades from one shade to another.

_ UtilityToolbar. This is a toolbar whose look and feel is similar to the Internet Explorer toolbar.

_ ImageButton. This is a button that displays a graphic over a transparent background.

_ NotificationWindow. This displays text and graphics in a pop-up window (commonly known as "toast").

_ TaskPane. This is a container that provides collapsible frames for displaying additional information on a form.

_ FolderViewer. This displays directories in a hierarchical format.

_ FileViewer. This displays a list of the files in a specified directory.

Visual Basic .NET is such a good development platform, I cannot imagine why anyone wants to go with Java.
