The Madonna and Child with Saints, by Neri di Bicci shows Mary and the Christ child, eager to nurse.
Their heavenly court is made up of saints, each with their traditional emblem: St. Luke the physician, with an ox; St. Bartholomew with the knife used to flay him; St. Lawrence with the grill on which he was martyred and the palm signifying a martyr’s victory; St. John the Baptist proclaiming "Ecce Agnus Dei," "Behold the Lamb of God"; St. Martin of Tours, bishop; St. Sebastian, martyred by many arrows.
