Performance analysis of OpenOffice and MS Office

I am currently using OpenOffice 2.0 myself (Hear that? Robert? B is using OO software!). I can't comment about it's performance in-depth but 2.0 is certainly a big performance improvement from the earlier version. Meanwhile, ZD.NET has an blog post "Performance analysis of OpenOffice and MS Office" comparing the performance difference between these two productivity suites.

I've been playing around with OO2, and this is my first time using it. I must say that it's quite impressive for what it is - a free office suite. And if I didn't get free software from MS, i'd probably use it!

But reading the comments on that blog, i just laugh at all these people complaining how the numbers are biased. Numbers don't lie, and when you're given the base from which they're taken they can't be said to be misleading either.

Truth be told, i do prefer MS Office. It feels snappier and just a nicer overall user experience. OO2 isn't far behind, but having said that it doesn't provide any compelling reason for a current MS Office user to make the switch.

I'm a MS office user myself. I've never tried open office. However, the big issue that is being used to push OO's adoption is that of cost. The public schools here, for instance, do not have the financial resources to sustain commercial software of any kind.
