It has recently been pointed out to me that I’ve been guilty of neglecting both my blog and my New Year’s Resolution of partaking in the more cultural pursuits of life. Shame on me and I thought that I’d rectify this and kill two birds with one stone. Last Friday I headed off to the Royal Albert Hall (one of my favourite venues) to see the sell out Eric Clapton gig courtesy of my sister who works in the record business. Clapton was simply awesome and it’s official, he is the ultimate rock god and king of guitar riffs and I’d recommend that any serious music fan should try and see him live at least once. Clapton played for a solid two hours and probably spoke all of three words; when you go to a Clapton gig it is ALL about the music and it’s more like him playing to you in your living room; "I Shot the Sherrif", "Cocaine" and of course "Layla" were out of this world plus his support band, Robert Randolph and the Family Band were equally amazing.
And then for a second does of culture in one week, Emma, who also works in the DPE team at Microsoft and I went to see Edward Albee’s intriguingly titled The Goat or Who is Silvia at the Apollo Theatre. Hot from Broadway and starring Jonathan Pryce [Elliot Carver in James Bond’s Tomorrow Never Dies and more recently Governor Weatherby Swann in Pirates of the Caribbean] and his wife Kate Fahy, it is really funny and very dark. It’s all about Martin a 50 year old architect who is forced to confess to his wife and son that he is enmeshed in the most bizarre and unexpected of relationships … and that’s probably as much as I can say!
