Well you could say that yesterday was a “memorable” day of sporting activity. I was fortunate enough to have a day’s vacation as well as tickets for Number 1 Court on the hallowed grass of SW19 at Wimbledon. I was even more fortunate that the rain decided to hold off so I got to see Greg Rusedski, Jennifer Capriati and Roger Federer who was in sparkling form and looking a dead cert to retain his Men's Singles title.
Last night was definitely a "memorable" night however probably for all of the wrong reasons... For anyone reading this blog who is not based in Europe and who is not a footie fan, the Euro 2004 Football Championship is currently being played in Portugal and last night England met the host nation in the first of the quarter final matches. The England football team are no strangers to controversy and the lot of an English football fan has never been an easy one (just remember Maradonna’s golden hand). Well last night proved to be no exception and was pure torture with Portugal reaching the semi-finals following a 6-5 penalty shoot-out after 30 minutes of extra time and a disallowed Sol Campbell goal.
Any English football fans may therefore want to check out Urs Meier's, aka the Swiss referee, website and give him some feedback....
