On Friday I went to see Bebel Gilberto, the Brazilian chilled out artiste, who was playing outdoors in the stunning courtyard setting of Somerset House. With a pretty chequered history Somerset House is now paradoxically home to the Inland Revenue, the Courtauld Institute and some amazing art galleries. Even as a resident Londoner I have to say that Somerset House is the most stunning of venues situated right on the Embankment in Central London overlooking the River Thames, the Millennium Wheel and the Houses of Parliament. And the courtyard is now a really great place to sit and chill out on a balmy summer’s evening and this summer is hosting acts such as Lemon Jelly, Air and Snow Patrol. Anyway so how was Bebel? Well after having spent a week in Brazil my appetite had been whetted and I have to say that I was expecting lively Samba music and the odd Caprioska however it was definitely a much more chilled out affair. All in all though it was a great way to spend a summer’s evening and I won’t be throwing away my Bebel CD just yet..
