Culinary Culture Vultures

Last week Emma and I headed off on yet another culinary and cultural outing this time sampling the excellent new "dynamic dining" format at Sugar Reef followed by a trip to see the stunning West End theatre production of “Festen” which has just opened at the Lyric Theatre to rave reviews. It is based on the Danish film and play by Thomas Vinterberg, Mogens Rukov and Bo Hansen and without giving too much away, Festen tells the story of a Danish family who congregate at the family home to celebrate the 60th birthday of Helge Klingelfeldt. Gathered together are his loyal wife played by Jane Asher, daughter and two sons and a whole host of family and friends for what promises to be a very special occasion. However as the evening and frivolities progress the eldest son is compelled to publicly break the silence surrounding a torturous family secret. Emma and I seem to have a habit of stumbling across the most bizarre and haunting of plays and Festen is certainly no exception...

Caroline - I can't believe you gave it all away :) Kidding - but I did want to let you know that I once saw a play in the UK - it was called "Art" and it was quite nice.
