Imagine Cup Short Film Campaign
Wednesday, March 22, 2006 3:38 AM

The time has come for campaigning for my short film entry into Imagine Cup 2006

Team: Sreenath H B

Title: AnUrgence

Please view my promotion and download my files from here.

If you liked my idea, then please vote for the same.

Here is a brief write up about my movie:

This movie is not just about football..

This movie is not just about Brazilian footballers...

This is a movie more than all that

This movie comes with a message attached to it whether you want it or not.

This movie is based on a true story relating to an incident on a football field involving a great footballer of Brazilian origin. This is a movie that shows that lack of technology can cost us what is most important to us all - LIFE!

Participating in this invitational has been like a dream come true for me. I always wanted to make this movie and the Imagine Cup has been the biggest drive as yet for me.

You can download my file at: http://thespoke.net/ICReg/IC_SFVotingDetails.aspx?TeamId=9da3989b-2422-464a-8135-4246195b2fd7

Vote for us if you like my idea.

Hopefully i will complete this movie whatever it takes.

Imagine Cup - Algorithm/IT/Short Film
Saturday, March 18, 2006 10:44 PM

I had registered for 5 invitationals. And i was serious about only Software Design. But as i learnt a little about the other invitationals, i got interested. The most alluring one for me was Short Film. I have no experience in film making, but for watching, call me any time for a good movie. I always wanted to make an excellent movie (me being  a novice) and show it to local Kannada directors who make pathetic maovies spending crores of rupees on sick song sequences. So i had an idea in mind. Only needed implementation. Now i had a sufficient drive to do exactly that, and do it well too.

Apart from Short Film, I also started loving the Algorithm challenge - Nanobot programming in a new language called 'H' which stands for Herbert. For those who dont kno, i can simply add this line to my resume and impress people of having hands on experience in Nanobot programming! I got a mediocre total (i think it is 9523), nothing compared to the toppers on the leader boards. I later found out that the top 200 will go thru to the next level. And my rank was un-officially 1020.

The IT invitational was inviting since it was an online one hour test. I had no idea what it was about and took the test. I somehow managed to notch up 40 points using Google and TechNet but that wasnt a sufficient score to qualify for the next round.

Right now i have my hopes pinned on Short Film whose community voting starts 20th March. Lets do some campaining!

And of course, there always is Software Design whose Round 2 results are due on 20th too...

Imagine Cup - Software Design
Saturday, March 18, 2006 10:12 PM

It has been sometime since i had some time to update my blog. But things happened so fast that i had no time to type a few words. As i had registered for Software Design and also had prepared an amazing team consisting of the top brains of my college, I was going into it in full throttle. The deadlines for the first round was announced and later extended. We finished our exams and submitted our abstract. We were not making any small project, so we were sure we would clear the First Round. And sure enough, 75 teams weer shortlisted from over 1000 participating teams. And we were among those 75 teams. Next we had a very short deadline to submit our next round documents which included a Detail Specification about our project, Reference & Architecture Diagrams and a powerpoint presentation. And we worked right thru the night we were supposed to submit our documents. We were a bit late, about 5 hrs past the deadline, but our submission was accepted. I remember that it was the longest i have ever been awake, 5-30AM. Someone came online at that time and asked me How come i had woken up so early?

Our conference call from Microsoft where we were to explain our project ideas to a Microsoft rep had already been scheduled at 5PM on the same day we had submitted our docs. So we had no time to prepare for the call as we had our other project work pending too. We got back home from project work and RING!! RING!! came the call. I turned on the speaker phone and was greeted by Tejas. Cool guy, listened to our unprepared presentation with calm nerves and lots of patience. Although he had an expression less voice, he seemed interested. How would you be if some amateur was trying to impress you with something that you had already mastered. And what would your situation be if you had to do this all day for 7-8 teams and two weeks in a row! I would go mad!

However our call ended on a good note. And we were happy that it was over, and not that we had done well. Since we had our call on the very first day Round 2 began, we had to wait a long time for results of the same. But no hurry, I can wait. Results are due 20th March. If we are through, there may be no posts here for a long time.

Server.MapPath Method
Thursday, January 12, 2006 6:25 PM

The MapPath method maps the specified relative or virtual path to the corresponding physical directory on the server

Syntax:
      MapPath(Path)

Parameters:

     Path

Specifies the relative or virtual path to map to a physical directory.
If Path starts with either a forward (/) or backward slash (\), the MapPath method returns a path as if Path were a full, virtual path.
If Path doesn't start with a slash, the MapPath method returns a path relative to the directory of the .asp file being processed.

This method does not check whether the path it returns is valid or exists on the server.
MapPath is not available to the Session_OnEnd and the Application_OnEnd events.
Because the MapPath method maps a path regardless of whether the specified directories currently exist, you can use the MapPath method to map a path to a physical directory structure, and then pass that path to a component that creates the specified directory or file on the server.

Example:

<%= Server.MapPath("data.txt")%><BR>

<%= Server.MapPath("script/data.txt")%><BR>

Use this method to find the physical path to a file on the server, without which the file open event will generate an error that the specified path doesnt exist!
