On 7th July 2007, Boeing made history with the roll-out of the 787 Dreamliner. This aircraft will change the way we fly in the 21st century providing more point-to-point services from secondary cities, thereby by passing major hubs allowing you the consumer to get where you want to go faster and more directly. It's also claimed to be a greener aircraft...up to 20% fewer emissions compared to similar commercial jets. Only when first flight takes place will we be able to assess whether this criteria has been met. It's also a much lighter aircraft due to the fuselage being made of 50% composites.
The question is...can Airbus bring to market the A350 XWB(Extra Wide Body) with direct operating costs and emissions lower than the 787 especially since there is only one engine supplier i.e. Rolls Royce providing the sole engine on A350 XWB so far.
