Testing, tablet
To answer areman's earlier question: these two thesis groups developed games for the mobile phone. One group (Alvin Ang and Hee Soo Lee) developed a small business simulation where the player has to sell calamansi (Philippine citrus) juice--a lemonade stand, if you will. The other group (KC Cruz and Gerald Abrencillo) developed a simulation where the player plays the part of a fish in a coral reef. It stays alive by eating its prey and avoiding its predators. The fishes used were based on actual species found in Philippine waters.
The kids had a very good time. The lab resounded with laughter, squealing (mostly from the girls), and friendly competitive taunts. We started serving snacks at about 4:30. They wolfed down their pizza and then headed back for the lab, thinking they would continue playing. When I told them the test was over, they responded with, "Awwww...." and "Can we play some more pleeeeeeeasseeee???"
On the part of the thesis groups, they were able to find some bugs in their program, i.e. the reef eventually runs out of prey. They were also able to get genuine reactions from the kids to guage whether the games were indeed fun or not. The kids generally liked the games, but the consensus was they preferred the business sim over the fish sim. Both groups did a good job. Congratulations! :)
Edit: There is still something wrong with my tablet PC. The buttons that change the orientation of the page, activate the stylus, and the notepad don't work. I have to send this puppy back to HP on Monday. Argh...
