Senior Sendoff?
To mark the end of four years in college, Ateneo seniors have an annual "Blue Roast"--a last, informal graduation party for the whole batch. There's music, there's beer, and there are all kinds of funny awards. It's intended to be a light, fun evening to toast the end of their college years. The Blue Roast is dominated primarily by the more...sociable majors. I have not really known the (reclusive and antisocial) CS and (more sociable but still not as sociable as others) MIS to really be involved in the preparations or the celebration proper--but then again what do I know?
Earlier this school year, Doc Mana proposed that we have a Blue Roast of our own, a senior sendoff exclusively for the CS and the MIS and their parents. With budgets shrinking and time whizzing by, I finally broached the possibility to Mike Wage and Tina Vaswani. Tina took it upon herself to put something together in very little time. The dept will just try to find a venue.
Tina is planning something for both the MIS and the CS. I spoke to KC Cruz yesterday, though, and asked her if the CS folks would be amenable to joining a mixed group. There's no emnity between the two groups, don't get me wrong, but the MIS far outnumber the CS, and if the occasion is to make personal contact with everyone, well, the CS might feel marginalized.
KC said that she would try to talk to her batch and see how they feel about this. If they are amenable to the mixed group, fine. If not, they will have to organize their own event. We can still provide a venue, but they will have to think of the food, decor, and maybe a program of sorts. I told KC, though, that it defaults to a mixed group. If they want their own thing, they have to tell me soon so I can inform Tina.
What's your reading of the situation? How do you think this will play out?
