Horrible wedding
We attended the wedding of a cousin yesterday. Talk about horrible. First, it started 45 minutes late. The invitation said 2:30. The ceremony actually began at 3:15. I do not understand why people feel the need to get married in front of an audience. If the bride, the groom, and the priest are there, I say start the wedding, whether or not there is a crowd to witness the event.
Second, the priest had a 30-minute homily. He made many good points, but any one of them would have been sufficient. One thing he said was that he was angry at people who went to the reception but not to the wedding. Did it occur to him that perhaps he was the problem, that perhaps people were avoiding him? Experiences like those make me want to teach in a seminary. I want to be able to tell these priest wannabes that if I am ever in their church and the homily is pointless or too long, I am standing up and walking out.
