We're having the second of three open houses later this afternoon. Open houses can be very stressful. Aside from the time and the expense, there are so many uncontrollables, most notably the temperament and predisposition of the guests. For the most part, people are very decent and polite. Occasionally, though, you get people who are not so nice. Mark Escaler of the Comm Dept noted that some parents "eat junior faculty alive."
We expect a very small group of students and parents today, so I didn't rope in any junior faculty to help out. Mostly, I enlisted some big guns--Dr. Vergara, Dr. Manalastas, Hans Chua, Stanley Tan, and Marilyn Siy of Accenture--who can really look out for themselves. I do have three students, though--Marc Lihan, Beverly Almazan, and Ryan Labrador. I'm going to have to keep an eye out for them.
Wish us luck!
