.NET and academia
Tuesday, March 28, 2006 10:33 PM
My brief foray into .NET has profoundly impressed with the technology but equally frustrated with the learning materials. Is there a textbook--not a reference book, mind you!--out there that uses .NET as a platform?
Many people don't realize this

Post-grad dinner
Saturday, March 25, 2006 7:20 AM
The garden at the back of the Jesuit Residence, an expansive plateu of thick grass, overlooks the Marikina Valley. Here, under the stars, is where the faculty and administrators gather for the post-graduation dinner. Imagine Fr.

Test broadcast
Thursday, March 23, 2006 8:13 AM
Yesterday's test broadcast was successful. We were able to transmit without a glitch. Later in the afternoon, though, one of the campus's our core network technologies crashed--I don't know which one--bringing the entire campus network down.

C#; Webcast

Thanks, Alfred, for explaining the uninitialized object question. NullReferenceException was the answer I guessed but I wasn't sure at all. Of course, the exam doesn't tell you what answers you got right or wrong so it was only after your

Long days...

I attended the Vista launch yesterday. Stanley Tan is an amazing speaker. Talking to him personally, you'd think he was so soft spoken, but on stage, wow, he's transformed.
I also atended the FSAP graduation. Loooonnng event!

C# questions
Monday, March 13, 2006 6:27 AM
I received my third C# star yesterday on the first try. I'm assuming these tests are open notes and open compiler, right? Or am I expected to know these things off the top of my head?
I do have some questions that arose from the third

Open house
Sunday, March 12, 2006 7:54 AM
Yesterday, we conducted the Open House for the prospective freshmen. I think we made a good impression--or at least I hope we did. Mostly, I am very grateful to the people who put the whole show together. Most of the faculty, members

Greatness; C#
Saturday, March 11, 2006 7:13 AM
Yesterday evening, we paid tribute to three of the Ateneo's truly great teachers: Dr. Mari-jo Ruiz, Dr. Norman Quimpo, and Dr. Joe Marasigan. Together, they have taught in the Ateneo for a total of 114 years.
In their very gracious response, they

Ticked
Friday, March 10, 2006 5:11 AM
Several weeks ago, certain parties berated me and the department for what they attributed to be our failures. Yesterday, the shoe was on the other foot. These same parties committed the latest in a string of boo-boos that belie a lack of planning, coordination,

Late days
Tuesday, March 07, 2006 2:39 PM
One of the advantages of working in academia is that you get to go home while the sun is still shining. There are days and weeks, though, when this is not the case. This week and next week are going to be some of those weeks. So, I sit

MSDN Connection
Monday, March 06, 2006 9:15 AM
Upon Aids's recommendation, I joined MSDN and started the PTS on C#. I got up to the second stage before I had to stop. It was a well-written course--very interesting, well-paced, and well-organized. I congratulate the people who

.NET at last!
Sunday, March 05, 2006 10:24 AM
I'm starting fresh next year. My teaching load as it currently stands has me lined up for several subjects I've never taught before, including .NET. It will be a wrench to give up HCI in particular--I love teaching that subject--but I really

Frustration
Thursday, March 02, 2006 6:32 PM
I received word this morning that another proposal I sent out was turned down. Argh, this is getting frustrating. There's something about educational technology that's difficult to sell. Everyone seems to agree that it's good to have technology in schools,
