Getting back to normal; UAAP; Webcast of the game?
Saturday, September 30, 2006 8:03 AM
Milenyo was the worst storm to hit the metro in recent memory.  It's been over 36 hours since it passed and parts of the city still don't have power or water or phones.  Cell service is spotty. The streets are still littered with debris. The

First, let me say that I hope those of you who went through yesterday's typhoon are all right.  I hope your families and homes are safe. There's a description used for someone with no common sense: "S/he doesn't have the sense to come in out of

Wednesday, September 27, 2006 10:07 AM
Just wanted to share a beautiful prayer by Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa:   When we are too well-pleased with ourselves; Disturb us, O Lord When our dreams have come true because we dreamed too little; Disturb us, O Lord When we have

Waste
Monday, September 25, 2006 8:41 AM
There was something I undertook that I made much harder, much more time consuming, and much more expensive than it needed to be.  I undertook it to please a group of people. They turned out to be much easier to please and far less sophisticated than

The right person
Sunday, September 24, 2006 8:17 AM
There is someone being considered for a job.  I do not like the candidate.  The candiate is a good person--certainly not evil or malicious.  But I do not believe the candidate is a good fit for the role.  I have argued that the candidate's

On faculty awards; Meeting
Saturday, September 23, 2006 10:54 AM
To chelchel_am: The faculty awards are organized by Celadon, which is an Ateneo student organization.  Ateneo does not have a monopoly on poking fun at our teachers--I imagine other schools have similar awards. Celadon organizes this "contest"

For the first time this week, I was able to walk to the Celadon board to see who made it to this year's list of nominations.  I was pleasantly surprised to find that, for the first time ever, I was nominated!  The category? Akala namin Terror

Oh, no...
Wednesday, September 20, 2006 3:04 PM
I came from a potentially life-changing meeting today. We talked about all sorts of exciting possibilities that would eat up all of sem break and all of summer.  It's tons of work but it's high-impact and high-visibility.  At the end of it all,

I have to meet with a group of people later this week.  I'm not looking forward to the meeting because past experience with this group has not been very good.  Years ago, the Department had one brief but positive encounter with these people.

Sunday, September 17, 2006 6:25 PM
Hey, Russell!  Nice to hear from you again. I see your point about the sigmoid being skewed to the left.  I have to point out, though, that x does not represent a unit of time but actually the intensity of event or stimulus.  y represents

The sigmoid function

To Punzki: You think so?  As I mentioned, I have nothing against those who won.  In fact, I don't think anyone will ever begrudge Ricky Abad, Queena Lee-Chua, and Dr. Intal their recognitions.  All of them deserve the award, no doubt.
