Bonus points; Reverse job fair

To Alfred: I agree completely that bonus points cheapen the grade.

To Punzki: Yes, you're completely right--some of these talks are not really worth attending.

This coming March, the ECCE Department is organizing a poster session featuring student projects and theses.  They've been gracious enough to invite students from all other departments to participate.

We suggested that, aside from inviting lowerclassmen (for them to glean ideas for their own theses), we could also invite prospective employers.  So many companies ask us for time with our students, we're not able to accommodate all of them.  However, if we invite them to this poster session, they can spot talent and then maybe ask for resumes or contact details.  It's sort of a reverse job fair--a prospective employee fair?

I think it is a great idea to invite the companies. Not only will they get a chance to meet the students and see what they can do it will be a chance for students to get used to talking to possible employers. Faculty may be able to observe and provide coaching before future, more high stakes, meetings student will have with possible employers.
As an added bonus perhaps the professionals will give advise about the projects and how to make business presentations which are sometimes different from academic ones.

my company would probably like to attend too. and it would be nice if we could bring posters of our own ;-) the commercial variety.
