Spotting dementia
Monday, February 26, 2007 6:05 AM
Age magnified our quirks.  With an increase in seniority and a decrease in superiors, we gain more and more freedom to express our character flaws. This is one of the benefits of aging. But how can you tell if these character flaws are borne of

To Love
Sunday, February 25, 2007 9:35 AM
Love is said to have two sides: a voluntary part and an involuntary part.  The mass media glorifies the involuntary part, that first spark of passion, the feeling of falling that leads you to do wild and crazy things for the object of your love:

Problem child
Saturday, February 24, 2007 6:25 AM
I don't know what I'm going to do with him. He could do so many good things, but because life is complex he has far too many constraints to be able to contribute in meaningful ways. It's unfortunate to the institution, really, and unfair to so many

Java Cup
Friday, February 23, 2007 8:17 AM
Two days ago, JV Liwanag and Cricket La Chica were third place in the UP-hosted Java Cup.  The UP team came in first. The DLSU team came in second. Can't win them all, guys, but it was a good effort. JV and Cricket also won "Most Elegant Code."

Ignoring disapproval
Thursday, February 22, 2007 8:21 AM
Some people wear non-conformity like a badge of independent-mindedness, of bravery, of defiance.  Sometimes, though, the greater majority's disapproval means something. The majority is not always right, but it's not always wrong, either.  The

Relationships
Wednesday, February 21, 2007 8:13 AM
She called last night, harping.  She asked me what I thought.  I said I'd rather not know anything about it.  Why not, she asked.  Because I can't do anything about it, I answered.  But I think it's good for you to know, she said,

Xbox bust
Tuesday, February 20, 2007 12:38 PM
The Blue Bag's first Xbox day has fizzled. There weren't enough people to actually generate too much excitement.  The organizers believe that people weren't that aware of the event--they probably didn't read the email. We really have to think of

Long shot
Monday, February 19, 2007 10:05 AM
I know it's a long shot, but I'm going to try anyway.  There's really no sense holding back. If I try and I fail, I'm no worse off.  I won't be discouraged. I won't think less of myself. The worst thing would be to fail for not having tried.

"Let It Be"
Thursday, February 15, 2007 11:50 AM
All prayers are answered. We just have to know how to listen.  Last night, as I was going to sleep, I prayed over my concerns.  Then, on cue, our neighbor fired up his Karaoke and launched into a rendition of Let It Be by the Beetles.

The smell of fear
Thursday, February 08, 2007 8:30 AM
They say that animals can smell fear.  I believe this is true.  Whenever I am nervous, I break out into a sweat, something I can both feel and smell.  This sends me careening toward the nearest restroom with a bag of toiletries to collect

Possibilities

I/O vs CPU-intensive tasks
