Monday, February 26, 2007 6:05 AM
Age magnified our quirks. With an increase in seniority and a decrease in superiors, we gain more and more freedom to express our character flaws. This is one of the benefits of aging.
But how can you tell if these character flaws are borne of

To Love
Sunday, February 25, 2007 9:35 AM
Love is said to have two sides: a voluntary part and an involuntary part. The mass media glorifies the involuntary part, that first spark of passion, the feeling of falling that leads you to do wild and crazy things for the object of your love:

Problem child

I don't know what I'm going to do with him.
He could do so many good things, but because life is complex he has far too many constraints to be able to contribute in meaningful ways.
It's unfortunate to the institution, really, and unfair to so many

Java Cup

Two days ago, JV Liwanag and Cricket La Chica were third place in the UP-hosted Java Cup. The UP team came in first. The DLSU team came in second. Can't win them all, guys, but it was a good effort.
JV and Cricket also won "Most Elegant Code."

Xbox bust
Tuesday, February 20, 2007 12:38 PM
The Blue Bag's first Xbox day has fizzled. There weren't enough people to actually generate too much excitement. The organizers believe that people weren't that aware of the event--they probably didn't read the email.

Long shot
Monday, February 19, 2007 10:05 AM
I know it's a long shot, but I'm going to try anyway. There's really no sense holding back.

"Let It Be"
Thursday, February 15, 2007 11:50 AM
All prayers are answered. We just have to know how to listen. Last night, as I was going to sleep, I prayed over my concerns. Then, on cue, our neighbor fired up his Karaoke and launched into a rendition of Let It Be by the Beetles.

Belief?

If I sound as if I have doubts, it is because I do. I'm not sure whether X can do this. In fact, I'm pretty sure X will stumble through the task. However, the task has to be done and I am not about to do it. X

Waterdog?

We recently built one more pond in our house. It's not quite done yet--case in point, we haven't put in any fish yet (it's highly chlorinated to prevent mosquitos from breeding). However, Xiao Long has staked his claim on this body of

Imagine Cup
Sunday, February 04, 2007 8:18 AM
I was just invited to be a mentor for the Imagine Cup. Yikes. This is truly terrifying. Yes, I push our students to compete, but that's because I know they're up for the challenge. I, on a personal level, have always shied away from competition,

Tender egos
Saturday, February 03, 2007 10:09 AM
Jason's blog entry on confidence getting in the way of learning and Alfred's blog entry on strategy and tactics have me thinking to the point of distraction.I commented that resistance to suggestions is a sign of insecurity, not of confidence. Overblown
