I met with Mrs. Oracion yesterday. We decided on not one but two computer camps for the grade school: one for primary school and one for middle school. The primary school camp will use Scratch (thank you, Alfred!). The middle school camp will use Neverwinter Nights. (Aids: Mrs. O gave it her OK--I was surprised!)
We're advertising the workshops as game development camps. I hope that attracts participants.
Now here's my problem: the Deparment only has 10 copies of Neverwinter Nights. Datablitz ran out of stock of the Diamond Edition. I don't want to buy the new version because they're more expensive and I'm concerned about having small kids use different platforms. (If anyone has a line on where I can buy or borrow more copies of the Diamond Edition, let me know, please!)
Oh, and I'm handling the workshops with Jess Sugay.
This ought to be interesting on several levels. One is that I've never taught these packages before. Two is I've never taught kids this age before. I've been told I should crank up the emotions--get mad or at the very least pout. I don't know if I can do that! I might end up laughing at myself.
Anyway, I'm being brave about handling this because my entire research interest is really technology for basic ed, and it doesn't get more basic than this.
