This is the first year I've watched American Idol. I was never a fan before, but this year, I got hooked.  I began by watching the auditions, and then I just never stopped.

So what is the deal with Sanjaya?  I mean, is the American public voting for him because they honestly believe he is a good singer?  Is this just a massive response to Vote for the Worst?  I don't get it. 

I heard from another Idol fan that in the last votation, Sanjaya was in third place, following Melinda and Chris Richardson.  It was hard to believe he ranked even higher than Jordan, LaKisha, and Gina!  I also heard on one of the entertainment shows (I think it was Inside Edition) that producers are concerned that if Sanjaya ultimately wins, the reputation of the show would be damaged.  Yes, I can definitely see that happening.

One thing is for sure: his presence keeps the show interesting.
