Computer games and philosophy

Next semester, I am hoping to collaborate with the English, Filipino and Philosophy departments in offering the game development course.  One of the Philo teachers wrote me and indicated his interest.  He was apprehensive, though: In what ways could Philo contribute to the course?

I said there were a couple of ways that came to mind. First, Philo could provide the plotlines. We could immerse the players in ethical dilemmas with no easy answers or with trade-offs regardless of what decision they make.  The second thought was to even just take the students on a reflection on the phenomenon of fun and of appropriate use of media to communicate a message.

I'm not sure whether this is going--we're making it up as we go along.  However, the process will be interesting and exciting.  I'm sure we'll all learn a lot.

ma'am here's some games that place Philosophy (and in some ways, Religion) into play: Fable, Grand Theft Auto (it's soo loaded with Philosophy, as well as morality), Final Fantasy VII, VIII, Tactics, Xenogears and Metal Gear Solid series.
