My family and I attended Sunday Mass in Makati yesterday afternoon. This was a departure from our usual schedule--we normally attend on Saturday evenings or Sunday mornings.
I seldom appreciate singing during Masses because the choirs or soloists tend to be mediocre. Occasionally, though, you happen upon a very good singer and all of a sudden the Mass is thrice as solemn. Yesterday was such an instance.
The soloist was a tall, middle-aged man with a barrel chest and a complete lack of self-consciousness. He sang with a deep, full baritone, while looking unflinchingly at the congregation. What a voice! My hair stood on end and my eyes brimmed with tears. I'm tempted to change my Mass schedule just to hear him sing again.
