I"m in the Penang airport waiting for my flight to Singapore. So sorry I will not be able to say hello to Bernard in person--I'm connecting straight away to the Manila.
I got to the airport one hour before the counter opened--yes, I'm THAT eager to get home. I stood at the head of the line reading and the waiting felt so, so long. Now that I'm by the gate, I've discovered they have wireless access and time is zipping by.

I've mentioned in my blog before that I don't really enjoy traveling for work. There is always something exciting about getting out and going to places, but my mind is constantly on family and work, and I have the celphone bills to prove it. Still, I do this because I know that it is important for both personal and professional growth.
This trip, I must admit, was educational. I met some interesting people and picked up on some possibilities for research--topics have the potential of making a positive impact on basic education, which is my pet area. We at DISCS have a long meeting tomorrow to talk about research directions. Coming on this trip, I didn't think I would have anything to contribute. But after my presentations yesterday and the talks that I sat through, I was inspired and energized, so it looks like I will have something to say after all.
