I had a chat with Fr. Nemy Que of the Office of Admission and Aid. One of the programs that he runs is the Ateneo Junior Summer Seminar, a summer-long advanced placement for incoming high school juniors. The seminar is a mix of courses--math, physics, chemistry, psychology, philosophy, and of course a computer camp.
Fr. Nemy is concerned that the computer camp received negative feedback from last summer. The consensus was that it was boring, they didn't learn anything, they weren't interested. Fr. Nemy wants us to work on making it better, more appealing to these kids.
We are in discussions now about how exactly to do that. We would like to give them a flavor of what computer science or MIS are about, so they can decide whether they would like to pursue these as courses. The management folks are innovating an "Apprentice"-type game in which students have to outsell each other. We need a gimmick like that. Any ideas?
