Thanks, Alfred, for the good wishes.
We listened to a couple of interesting talks yesterday that told us about our students. I learned so many things! For example, we have some students who get absolutely no allowance and others who get up to P8,500 (approx US$40) per week. To give you a sense of comparison, an entry-level instructor gets about half that.
The School of Science and Engineering continues to have the highest percentage of scholars--44% this year, I think--as opposed to the 20-odd percent of the other schools.
Our students, especially the freshmen, are under tremendous pressure to perform.
Our students, as it turned out, spend most of their time studying.
Some of our students have funny concerns. One wanted breast implants. I assume this was a SHE.
When stressed, most of our students turn to music. Not to religion (though they sometimes listen to spiritual music), not to family, not to friends.
Our students come to the Ateneo for excellent academics, for the beautiful environment, for work credentials, and (and this we really like to hear) to learn how to serve others.
There was so much data that another venue will be scheduled for the continuation of the presentation. I can't wait to hear more!
