I'm a very outputs-oriented person. I need a job done. Get it done. The more details you can handle yourself, the better. I won't micromanage you--God knows I have enough going on on my end. Come to me with results. I won't bother you as to how you got them.
Now, if I have to micromanage you, if I have to get into the details because you can't keep up, then I don't need you on this project. It's easier for me to handle things myself. This way, I know what I can expect. But don't put me in a situation where it is actually possible for you to let me down. That's all well and good in an academic situation where the only thing that's affected is your grade. But in the real world, where other people actually depend on you for results, failure has harsh consequences not just on you but on many other people.
