There is someone being considered for a job. I do not like the candidate. The candiate is a good person--certainly not evil or malicious. But I do not believe the candidate is a good fit for the role. I have argued that the candidate's field and aptitudes are only tangential to that of the role. The candidate's supporters have counterargued that tangential is still related. However, the person assuming the role represents the larger organization in venues that specialize in the field. What ever the person's specialization is, the person must be able to render authoritative opinions regarding the field as a whole. Having a specialization and an aptitude that is only tangential is simply not enough.
