I'm involved in a project that requires a lot of art work from different artists. The first round of artists that were invited to join were fairly well-known, established players in the field who drew and painted for a living. The problem sometimes with working with people of this nature is that they are artistic even in temperament--unstructured, unable to commit to a deadline, etc. Not all of them, mind you, just some.
I could understand if they were mindblowingly talented, but the truth is, they're not. One of them submitted some work. Some people in the group loved it, but I wasn't impressed.
At some point, the overall manager of the project expressed frustration at how difficult it was to manage the artists. So, I pitched a few more names, "artists" with whom I had worked for the Grade School. They are by and large CS, MIS or ComTech majors currently working full-time jobs. But they can draw and paint well, stick to a budget, and follow a deadline. They're being considered for the additional work. I hope they get it.
