I just finished reading the book Finding Flow by Mihaly Csiksentmihalyi (pronounced chick-SENT-me-high). Flow refers to a state of engagement. When we devote our full attention to something, we are in a state of flow. This "something" can be an everyday task such as driving or cooking. It can be a recreational activity such as playing tennis or watching (participating in?) a UAAP game. It can, of course, happen when we work--especially when we solve complex problems.
To Csiksentmihalyi, flow corresponds to quality of life. A passive life, one that has minimal engagement, has poor quality. The more flow you experience, the better your quality of life. The quality of an experience is a function of challenge vs. skills. When both skills and challenge are high but well-matched, an experience is optimal.
Have you found your perfect combination?
