A blog about the stuff that keeps life interesting, meaningful, and fun.

Immigration

If I were to move out of Metro Manila, I would most probably opt to move to the provinces instead of abroad.  The cost of living is lower.  The pace of life is calmer.  Depending on which province (I was actually thinking of Davao), I could probably still teach.

Speaking purely for myself and without any prejudice towards those who opt to leave the country altogether, I find a great deal of meaning in the work that I do.  I do not just refer to the college teaching.  I refer to my extension work as well, especially the training and consultancy work for the public schools.  The context in which I work is important to me and I don't think I could be as satisfied in another context.

So, I guess this is my way of saying I'm not going anywhere anytime soon.  Or if I leave at all, it will be temporary.  To paraphase the Arnold: I'll always be back.

Didith, I would like to invite you to consider a sabbatical or visiting fellowship here in Australia? It can certainly help to increase the awareness and profile of Ateneo in the region?

I have lived in urban areas (in the US it doesn't get more urban that New York City) and rural areas (where I attended university we were surounded by farms and fields and a long way to the nearest big city) and now live in an area that is suburban in many ways. I like them all but in different ways.
One of the nice thinks about the US is that one can live in just about any sort of area you want without leaving the country. :-)
