Yesterday and today, I've had two people communicate essentially the same message: Please do this--we'll pay you.
First, let me say that money is good. I like money. However, permit me to also say that it is not my principal motivation. If it were, I wouldn't be teaching.
Second, I think the tasks laid before me are important and they need to be done. I would do them if I had the time. The problem is that I really don't. There is just so much on my plate right now, I can't take on one more task.
If I don't jump at these opportunities, it's not for a lack of interest. It is because I'll just end up overcommitting myself and all my work, including the new task, will just languish until they are no longer relevant or necessary.
Sad but true: Money does not add hours to my day.
