What is your expectation for a Microsoft event?
Tuesday, December 28, 2004 3:47 AM

We did a survey on what is the students' expectation for Multimedia University Microsoft TechDev Day last week, according to the feedback from the students, the highest demand are:

36.0% Latest technologies such as Windows Longhorn, Visual Studio .NET 2005, Microsoft SQL Server 2005, etc.
32.0% Hands On Lab
12.5% Experience sharing by professionals on their working life
12.1% Experience sharing on Final Year Project
4.90% Freebies
2.50% Some other comments

Sheng Sin has a different result from his survey on what do you want from the Microsoft Student Ambassador in your campus. It shows 42% of students demand on freebies, in this way, I am proud of the students here in this campus, they demand on latest technologies but not freebies! At least, most of them.

Microsoft Student Ambassador Bootcamp
Tuesday, December 14, 2004 11:25 AM

2 days bootcamp fagged me out, muscles all over my body still ache after yesterday's Go Kart, nevertheless, we had lots of fun.

It was a 2-day bootcamp all over Saturday and Sunday, we started with ice-breaking session and a briefing of Microsoft Student Ambassador Program from Fai and Stanley, each of the existing Student Ambassadors get mixed with the new Student Ambassadors by sharing their interests and embarrassing moments.

The bootcamp continued with a mid year review for the senior Student Ambassadors after lunch, the Student Ambassadors from University of Tunku Abdul Rahman (Vico and Derek), Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology (Amy and Estelle) and Multimedia University (Sheng Sin and Jed) were presented with the Select Awards, congratulations!

After check in the hotel, we had a buffet steamboat dinner at Coca Restaurant. The food there are much better than Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel, especially the "Dou Fu" (bean curd), I reckon Fai and Sheng Sin likes it very much since they talked a lot about it during the dinner;)

We ended the 1st day with a bowling competition and started the 2nd day with a Go-Kart racing! The Go-Kart is great except the smelly helmet and mosquitoes, but it was very tired after the Go-Kart, should swap the schedule next time. The bootcamp concluded with group presentation on planning for the upcoming year.

It's great to meet the existing Student Ambassadors again and get to know the new Student Ambassadors in the bootcamp, looking forward to seeing all of you soon.

Microsoft Student Ambassador Bootcamp
Saturday, March 06, 2004 4:24 PM

27 February, 2004

20:00 – Midnight. It was the time I am doing my Financial Accounting mid-term exam, but in my mind, I was keeping on thinking what will going on for tomorrow bootcamp... After the exam, I go 'YAM CHA' with my friends at the near Mamak Stall, they all talking about the exam, but me. Expecting...

28 February, 2004

05:05, Malacca Bus Station. Waiting for the bus, I think it will be the earliest bus I took in my life. Thanks my friend, Khu Wei Min, if without him I don't know how I can get there from my university at 4:30am.

08:30, Kuala Lumpur City Center. I can't found any of my SA colleagues till I went out the lobby. I saw someone was wearing same Student Ambassador Polo Shirt with me. I approached them and we introduced among ourselves, they are my brethren from Cyberjaya Campus! After minutes, most of SAs get together at the lobby and Hoon Fai helps us to get the pass to enter Towers 2.

09:15, Microsoft Auditorium, Level 29, Petronas Twin Tower 2. We started the 2 days bootcamp by introducing to the Student Ambassador Program, Hoong Fai (Microsoft Malaysia) and Stanley Tan (Microsoft Asia Pacific and Greater China) did a very good beginning. After that Dr. Wong (Microsoft Malaysia) and Kiat Bin (Microsoft Malaysia) also gave a presentation to us, talking mostly about .NET and how IT industry is. Now, it's the turn to introduce us, the 14 Microsoft Student Ambassadors: Amy Tang and Estelle Chang (Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology), Jed Chuan and Sheng Sin (Multimedia University, Cyberjaya Campus), Kim Hoong and me (Multimedia University, Malacca Campus), Ben Jern and Ronald Chuah (Monash University, Malaysia), Amir and Sufian (Kolej Damansara Utama), Wilson Loo (National University of Singapore), Terk Sean (Nottingham University, Malaysia), Derek Chan, Vico Vicknesh and Sue Ching (Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman). Inside my mind, Ben Jern is a good representor with good voice. After ice-breaking session, we had our lunch at Corus Hotel.

14:30, Microsoft Auditorium, Level 29, Petronas Twin Tower 2. Back to the auditorium, we had an overview of the .NET framework and some demo for it. I felt very sleepy on that time, but Ronald full of energy and high spirits, he came up with countless questions... sigh... passionate about technology! After this, Hoong Fai told us how to make our presentation success with his experience, we also did some free topic presentations after his intro, since a long time did not sleep, I did a bad presentation on that day. After all, we had an X-BOX session with dinner at 20:20. The day's program ended with a tour around Microsoft Office.

22:45, Corus Hotel. Finally, I can sleep after 40 hours... But I also missed the 'MAMAK' session with Student Ambassadors...

29 February, 2004

09:30, Petronas Twin Towers. Our bootcamp have been delayed due to some complication at the security checkpoint. Luckily everything have been solved, we can proceed our program to the brainstorming session. We have been required to come out the yearly plan for Student Ambassador Program in our representative university. Kim Hoong and I did a draft plan for our university as well as Malaysia Microsoft Student Ambassador Community for this coming academic year. Since I need to take the 5:30pm bus back to Malacca, I left Microsoft Auditorium after took the photo with Hoon Fai and Stanley. It's a pity that I have to leave early.

It's a great experience with all the Malaysia Student Ambassadors at Microsoft! I have learned a lot from you guys, especially presentation skills. I am looking forward to meet you all again in the near future.

Hoong Fai, Amir, Jed Chuan, Sheng Sin, Derek Chan, Vico Vicknesh, Ronald Chuah
