Morality Test

So I go down to the coffee machine (not to get coffee - I'm not that stupid..). And I notice that there is already 10 pence paid into it. This causes a huge crisis. Do I:
  1. Pay less for my drink and consider myself 10 pence up on the day (a major win on my part)?
  2. Pay less for my drink and donate the 10 pence to a good cause?
  3. Leave the machine with 10p in so that is causes the same conscience crisis for the next user of the machine?

In the end I opted for option 3. I kind of felt that my integrity was under threat. Options 1 and 2 would have me leaving with the extra money (and they wouldn't necessarily know it was going to a good cause). And it might be that somebody had just popped off to get extra change to finish paying.

And they say that us programmers obsess over small things....

Sorry to post about something completely unrelated to this post, but I know people don't go back too far to look for comments. Reading through, I see that you are a Donald Fagan and Steely Dan fan, and I just had to give a cheer to a fellow fan! Is he not a fabulous songwriter? I'm much more familiar with his SD stuff, so now I feel compelled to check out more of his solo efforts.

I was in the same situation today. There was 5pence in the the vending machine. But unlike you Im a poor student and was chuffed at being 5pence up! But i did stop and think about your post while deciding what I wanted.

Yay! The Dan rock. And I've seen them live! (I tried to record the audio with my IPAQ - this doesn't work) I was really upset that in the last tour they didn't get round to visiting Europe. But yes, check out Nightfly 'cos it is wonderful. Kamakiriad is slightly less so in my opinion, but still has the fabulous "Tomorrows Girls". However, back to the post. I wonder if this is all some kind of set up by the Psychology department - perhaps someone is doing their coursework on us.....

Only option 1 came to my mind. The other options will come to mind in the future. Sometimes I think too much inside the box.
