From the Old English

Also for Fathers Day (tm) I was given a drinks mat. On it is a definition of my name:

From the Old English meaning 'Bright Flame'.

According to the mat (which must be more reliable than the internet) I am also good natured, friendly and outgoing with a great sense of humour. Oh, and I have great energy as well.

Wow. Two greats. Could there be a better name? I think that dad wanted to call me Michael. Whew, that was close. (not that I've anything against Michaels, it is just that I don't see how they could come close to Rob...) The snag is that I can see a huge factory out there where they just print different names on to the top of the pre-printed definition. As if anyone is going to argue with that.  The other snag is that I get confused about cause and effect. Am I wonderful because I am called Rob? Or did fate conspire to find me a name to match my wonderful personality?

Sorry. Yep. Coaster. I can put my coffee cup on my name.

Well, the only way to preserve free will - even a little - is to say that when you're trained to respond to "Rob", your brain formats with a wonderful personality. That's all there is to it. You can still learn other things and make decisions (such as naming a child), but that name is a cursed trap of wonderfulness.
