Thunderbirds are Go
Geoff said there was a lot of cheese. An OK film he reckoned. But a lot of cheese. However, it just so happens that I like cheese. And I reckon that the Thunderbirds movie was great. People have moaned about the fact that it has ended up a kids film. Well duh. The first time I saw the TV show I was around 8 years old and I loved it then. I kind of hope that today's 8 year olds will enjoy the film too.
In a 100 minute running time it would be difficult to establish the characters of all of the Thunderbirds family and so concentrating on Alan, the youngest brother, was the best way of hooking in the junior members of the audience. And so, on balance, it was a good call. All of the Thunderbird craft got to do something. There were plenty of explosions. Lady P. was present and correct, as was Parker. And the Hood was suitably dastardly, even though he had the stock incompetent assistants straight from central casting.
I walked out of the cinema humming the theme tune and feeling that all's well with the world. I rather think I won't be doing either of those things after seeing the angst ridden Spiderman II.
