Doomed
Back from hols today. Hence the title of the entry. Also, number one son has bought Doom 3, the latest reason to upgrade your graphics card. He informs me that it gives around 20 hours of play. So it is probably better value than a movie. Although once he has completed it apparently you can then play it on rock hard mode (or something) and it gets even more tricky.
As I write this he is alternately killing nasty things and moaning about his PC performance. Apparently this version uses real time lighting. Which means that the graphics card has to calculate the brightness of each pixel. Which makes it slow to update, etc etc etc. It looks very good to me, but as always I like the sound effects best. I think it does multiplayer, but I have a deliberate policy of not owning a machine which is capable of playing the latest games, mainly because I'm not very good at them....
