Some days I go to work and things are just a whizzy blur. The last two days have been like that. I can explain why in two words: "Term started". All over the campus new students are wandering around clutching a wad of papers in one hand and a mobile phone in the other, into which they are saying things like "I think I'm near the library, yes that looks like it. Are you the one in the poncho?....".
In year's time the same people will be watching the latest crop of freshers (as new students are called) come in and wondering that anyone could be so clueless. The good news is that everyone finds their way around pretty quickly and so in a couple of weeks everything will be running smoothlyish.
As for me, I've been putting into place things that we need for the next session. Getting the classroom server up and running. Starting up my CSharp course blog
here. Bringing on line my
Hurricane (poor choice of name that guys) based portal for admissions candidates - I'll post the link when I've made it work properly. And sorting out
Big Bridge Systems (still ongoing that one), our new games company. Oh, and giving the odd lecture and tutorial along the way. Having said that, start of session is always fun and the new crop of first years look like a great bunch. And we've already got 42 of them signed up for our
Computer Society. And now I'm off down the pub.
