Open Day Fun - And a Record You Must Buy
We had an open day today. Wonderful to see just about a full house. I'm always surprised and impressed at the distance from which people will come to see little old Hull.
I think we gave good value. Jon gave a superb talk on Computer Gaming. Paul showed of the Hive Virtual Environment (which is completely amazing). I did my talk in which I tell my favourite joke in all the world (don't ask).
Got a fair few takers for wherewouldyouthink T-shirts. And a few ideas for new topics. All in all a very good time was had by all.
And now, a record you must hear at least once in your life:
Common People sung (?) by William Shatner and Joe Jackson
If you have not heard this then you have not lived. I have heard funnier things, but not for ages. I'm pretty sure that after the fourth or fifth listening it will probably grate a lot but I've not heard it that many times yet and so I still love it at the moment....
I remember hearing the original, as played by Pulp, and noting how clever the lyrics were. Well, you certainly get the full effect when Captain Kirk lets fly with them. William Shatner, what a guy. I think he ran out of shame in about 1975...........
