Fridge Puzzle

You have a sealed room. In the room is a fridge. The fridge is plugged in. What happens to the temperature in the room if:
  1. The fridge is left with the door open.
  2. The fridge is left with the door shut.

A joke. From me. As if. No, it is serious. And it does make a difference. Trust me.

Keep working on it folks. There is a definite difference between what happens with door open vs door closed.

I'd say that the room temp would increase if it were open, and stay constant if closed if only because the increased efforts by Senor Fridge of keeping the its innard cold with the door open would generate more heat that would need dissapating into the air.

Hmm... the temperature would depend on the temperature set on the fridge.hehe If it is shut, it would be warmer because of the back of the fridge which is hot.hehe :p

With the door open, the room temperature would remain constant since the heat that the fridge (back of the fridge) produces and the cold temp coming from the fridge would cancel each other out. With the door closed, the room would heat up! ^__^ what's the answer? hehe! ^__^

OK. The answer folks. If the fridge is left with the door closed it cools down inside and the thermostat inside turns it off. So the room gets slightly warmer. The fridge comes on once heat has leaked in from the outisde. If the fridge is left with the door open it never gets cold inside and so runs all the time. Which makes the room get much hotter...
