Lego Star Wars Rocks
Monday, May 30, 2005 8:02 PM
Just finished Lego Star Wars. Wonderful game. Number one daughter and myself had great fun teaming up to battle against the dark side, but I reckon the game is worth getting for the cut scenes alone, which are all laugh out loud funny. If you've got kids

Fish and Chips Friday
Saturday, May 28, 2005 7:45 PM
The queue for the fish and chip shop was very long last night. The is an english tradition of having fish on Fridays, and it seems that everyone was maintaining this yesterday. Fish deep fried in batter and a portion of chips is a pretty good meal in

The Evil that is Block Copy
Thursday, May 26, 2005 6:48 PM
I've just lost around half an hour of work because of the evil of block copy. I'm seriously thinking of setting up a student project to make block copy not work in Visual Studio. Moving code around is fine, but pasting multiple copies should be forbidden.

Virtual PCs are Wonderful
Tuesday, May 24, 2005 8:44 PM
I'm doing a presentation about Class Server tomorrow. This is a neat product that we have been using in Hull for a while. To show it off to its best I of course need a Class Server installation. This means a Windows Server 2003 system with a fair few

Fun With Folds
Tuesday, May 24, 2005 8:40 AM
I've finished marking and now, as a form of relaxation, I'm writing some code. Lovely. I've stated making proper use of regions in C#. These are really neat. They let you take a block of code and fold it in the editor. They don't add anything to your

Standing Back From Advertising Copy
Friday, May 20, 2005 12:36 PM
I spent a bit of yesterday (in between marking) working on a little advert we are placing to promote our shiny new degree courses. It is amazing how much time it takes to get the words right. Between us, Warren, David, John and myself must have spent

Dodgy Dice
Wednesday, May 18, 2005 10:08 PM
I think I've figured out which of my two dice is the dodgy one. The trick is to drop them in a glass of water and see if one of them seems to turn a particular face downwards. The only snag is that I've no idea what to do next. We just don't play Monopoly

Gizmondo Cool
Tuesday, May 17, 2005 8:22 PM
I'm starting to really like my Gizmondo. Now that I've got GPS fixed I can get maps. The camera takes nice pictures. It plays Family Guy videos quite happily, along with WMA music. It would send and receive text messages if I needed it to. And the silly

Don't Make Things Up
Monday, May 16, 2005 7:28 PM
I've been marking exam scripts. Not a happy bunny. Especially with people who don't know the answer and decide to make something up. This never works. Never. Ever. Ever. (I could go on)It is a good way of looking busy in the exam hall I suppose, but I'd

Xbox 360 Launch Party
Sunday, May 15, 2005 7:59 PM
Managed to watch the MTV XBOX launch party thing today. Oh well. I'd hate to have wasted time and stayed late up to see it specially. I'm pretty sure that everyone who went had a good time. I think that one or two of them might even play video games.

Loaded Dice
Friday, May 13, 2005 9:46 PM
While I was at Covent Garden last week I bought a couple of dice. One of them is loaded (the pack doesn't say how or which one). Any ideas on how I solve this without a lot of work?

Panoramic Power
Wednesday, May 11, 2005 8:11 PM
One of the things that they showed is in the Microsoft House was the stitching part of Digital Image Pro 10. I've played with stitching programs before, and with a little care you can produce very impressive results. What they did with the latest version

Marking, marking, marking

Started marking today. Been kind of putting it off because it is about the only thing I'll be doing for the next couple of weeks. Wah. If anyone has any ideas about how to get through this I'd sure love to hear them.

A Nice House in London
Monday, May 09, 2005 7:48 PM
Went to London over the weekend. Thanks to my MVP status (and Lorna the hard working MVP lead) I had a chance to look around the "Microsoft House". This is a house full of Microsoft stuff (hence the name). Every room seemed to have a Media PC in

Been off at a conference. I was presenting a poster about C#. When I get the pictures off the camera I'll show you what it looks like....Anyhoo, last night I was sitting in a hotel room, miles away from home, and I thought I'd put some music on.

Milton Keynes Again
Monday, May 02, 2005 7:04 PM
Yesterday we drove down to Milton Keynes for another session of science fiction fanishness. Met up with (and got a picture signed by) Katee Sackhoff who plays Starbuck in Battlestar Galactica. Took the long lens and the big camera, so I could take pictures
