Xbox 360 Launch Party

Managed to watch the MTV XBOX launch party thing today. Oh well. I'd hate to have wasted time and stayed late up to see it specially. I'm pretty sure that everyone who went had a good time. I think that one or two of them might even play video games. The first bit, with the multi language video clips was great, and then there were a couple of useful insights into the machine itself. But the rest was just a music tracks by a couple of average bands and some few and far between technical tidbits.

Oh, and around half way through a girl came in, put an XBOX on a table and switched it on. The table promptly lit up green and then nothing happened. Later in the show I noticed that the new XBOX had vanished off the table. In fact it might as well not have been there. There was an ex hobbit in a red jacket and at least five seconds of footage which might have been produced by the new machine and that was that.

If a major selling point, as quoted at the event is "..the XBOX 360 lets you choose your own music soundtrack to the games...." then I'm even less impressed. I was doing this with Ridge Racer on the Playstation 1 nine years ago...Sorry Mr. Microsoft, but your launch did nothing for me at all. I'll certainly get an XBOX when it comes out but not because of this event....

Update:

Number one son just pointed me at this:

I was dissapointed with the MTV launch too, thats the problem with the MTV era of not being able to keep the camera still for 1second and only showing brief highlights. The ourcolony vid is alot better for geeks to watch

I thought that the launch was ok, but I learnt a lot more about the XBOX 360 by just surfing on the internet.

MTV isn't exactly known for its intellectual viewers. I doubt you would expect to co-author a book with any of the crowds. As far as the advertising goes, I reckon people would just associate 'MTV' which is cool with 'XBOX2' which is cool, and that's sufficient. More of a brand awareness thing than what it does. Although yes I agree entirely that it did seem completely random and mostly a waste of time.

PS: The colony video was also part of the m-home presentation, I believe it was also shown on MTV, but I could be wrong...

The colony video made me laugh more than wanting to buy one! I think they must be marketing towards lower primary school pupils or something?!
